Nortel Networks / Avaya

Once upon a time, Nortel (or Nortel Networks) was THE phone system of choice in Canada. In the 90’s and early 2000’s it seemed like every business had a Nortel phone system. At its height, Nortel accounted for more than a third of the total valuation of all the companies listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), employing 94,500 worldwide, with 25,900 in Canada alone. Nortel systems were popular for a number of reasons, including ease of use and durability. That durability has resulted in many systems still in place currently, even though parts have not been made for many years. Nine-One-One Communication Supply has been able to supply parts for these systems to this day thanks to years of buying old systems as they were upgraded or decommissioned, and repairing/refurbishing them.

Nortel ran into financial problems and in the mid-late 2000’s began selling off parts of the company. In 2009, Nortel named Avaya the successful bidder when they auctioned off their Enterprise Solutions Business. That spelled the end of the line for manufacturing of the popular systems everyone was familiar with- the CICS and MICS, and prior to that the 3×8, 6×16 and 8×24,. Avaya did continue to produce the BCM’s for a time but eventually all that business was rolled into the IP Office product family.

Today, many Nortel systems remain in place and customers are still happy with them. Those customers need to start thinking about replacing them soon as parts have become scarce, but in the meantime Nine-One-One Communication is here to hopefully provide the parts you need to keep it going just a bit longer. So if you have a phone that is broken, you have a few new employees needing phones or a line card went bad, reach out to us and we might be able to get your system back up and running.

Nine-One-One Communication Supply has both Nortel and Avaya products refurbished, we can also source new Avaya products through an authorized distributor.
